Passed away 22 May 2009 - age 60
PATERSON, Sharon Lee (nee Henderson) (Wife of Al Paterson, ret'd) November 6, 1948 May 22, 2009 On Friday, May 22, 2009 my wife, Sharon, lost her fight with cancer. It was a long, two year battle and I was so proud of the way she continually tried to hide the fact from her daughters. Leanne and Heather as well as the rest of the family so as to not cause them any suffering. She passed quietly in her sleep at 8:30 in the morning. Her family had been standing a vigil for the last 48 hours.
She leaves behind husband of 28 years Alan (Al), daughters Heather McLellan, Leanne Walker and husband Chris, grandchildren Quintin and Laine, (the apples of her eyes), stepsons Scott Paterson and fiance Elena Clark, Mark Paterson and fiance Kathy Laughton. Her mother Marian Henderson of Parksville (Pender Island), sister Gail Crumley and husband Michael, niece Jennifer Johnson and husband Byron, grandnieces Mya, Keily and Nora, Heather Shaw-Wood and husband Paul, sister Laurel Kellington and husband Ronald, nephews Kenneth and Stephen. Sharon was born in Toronto and spent her younger years being dragged around the country and Europe as an ""Army Brat"". She loved the change of homes every couple of years as she always had her best friend, Gail (her mirror image twin) with her on her adventures. She then followed up by marrying a sailor who, as her father before him, dragged Sharon and the kids all over the country, again. Sharon's favourite saying as "This is my opinion about something I know absolutely nothing about" and she always loved to weigh in on an argument. Her family meant the world to her and was the source of her strength. The family held a private Celebration of her Life memorial. For those who had the privilege of her friendship there was nothing that was not given. Sharon was the ""Love of my life"", my best friend, my confidant, and my dancing partner. I am going to miss her so much.
We would like to thank all the folks that helped us on this journey, all the doctors, nurses, counsellors and the ladies from Beacon Home Care. In lieu of flowers a donations to the Victoria Hospice or your local Cancer Society in Sharon's name would be appreciated. They were, and still are, a great source of comfort and support.
