Passed away 29 June 2018 - age 88
With great sadness we say goodbye to Conrad Hauser. He passed peacefully on the morning of June 29, 2018 at the Penticton General Hospital with his wife Shirley Claire and many family members by his side.
Conrad was born in Zurich Switzerland on March 31, 1930. He came to Canada in 1951 as a young man in search of adventure and a better life. In Winnipeg, after a year working in Manitoba, still in search of adventure, he joined the Canadian Army. He travelled to Africa and ironically back to Europe to serve two postings in Germany. After several postings across Canada, his last posting was to Victoria in 1972. There he retired from the military, after 20 years of service, as a Sargent with his Chefs certification. Conrad took his training and continued in his cooking career by opening a European style delicatessen. In 1976 he married his wife Shirley and welcomed her three children into his life. Together they grew their business, opening three more deli's in Victoria. After cooking for more than 35 years he retired, but continued cooking at home for his family. His final move was to Penticton in 1999 to enjoy the Okanagan lifestyle and continue his membership in the Legion, which totalled 40 years.
Conrad is survived by his wife Shirley, his 3 children, Walter (Margo), Wayne (Stephanie) and Corinne (Mike); grandchildren, Richard (Xanadu), Thomas (Naomi), Jesika (Carson), Alicia and Rachel; and great-grandchildren Guinevere, Anika, Trinity and Paithian.
At Conrad's request, there will not be a funeral service. There will be a family memorial at a later date to scatter his ashes. A special thanks to the Penticton General Hospital for their care and kindness.
Conrad loved his family. He lived life large, his way, on his own terms and we all loved him for that. Whether we called him Conrad, Pop, Dad, Opa or Great Opa, we will all miss him. Thanks for the memories......
